LAS VEGAS (AP) — Republican former state lawmaker Bob Beers has been elected to the Ward 2 Las Vegas City Council seat that opened up when Steve Wolfson was appointed Clark County district attorney.
Beers won 1,924 votes in the Tuesday special election, or 37% of vote. City Planning Commissioner Ric Truesdell came second in the nine-person race, with 22% of the vote, and public defender Kristine Kuzemka came in third with 14% of the vote.
The 52-year-old Beers is an accountant by trade and was known as an outspoken fiscal conservative during a decade as a state lawmaker.
Runner-up Truesdell was endorsed by political power couple Oscar and Carolyn Goodman.
Ward 2 encompasses the Summerlin area. About 5,000 ballots were cast, while the ward includes nearly 43,000 registered voters.
