(Las Vegas, NV) — Hispanics now make up the largest group of students in Nevada. The state Department of Education says during the last school year, nearly 39% of students were Hispanic, edging out white students by just one-tenth of a point. African-Americans account for nearly 10% of Nevada’s student population, followed by Asians and Native Americans. State officials also noted just over half of Nevada’s nearly 700-schools failed to meet the requirements of the No Child Left Behind law last year, putting the state on a federal watch list.
